Opening Ceremony was launced by Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, the United Nations High Representative who described the ceremony as "a historical event" and stresssed that Baku Process and the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue serve to preserve peace and cooperation praising the Azerbaijani government`s attention to intercultural dialogue.
"The fact that the presentation ceremony takes place at the UN headquarters testifies to Azerbaijan`s commitment to universal values" said Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev . He hailed Baku process and the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue as "the world's only initiative bringing together major international organizations including UNESCO, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), the World Tourism Organization, the Council of Europe and Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO)".
The participants of the event were invited to attend the 3rd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue on May 18-19. 2015.
Moufida Goucha, UNESCO Permanent Representative to UN said UNESCO attaches a particular importance to promoting peace and dialogue. She congratulated the Azerbaijani delegation on behalf of Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director General.
Rafiuddin Ahmed, UNWTO Permanent Representative to UN read out a congratulatory message from Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization.
Ufuk Geksen, Permanent Representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to UN read out a message of greetings of Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, ISESCO Director General.
Professor Mike Hardy, Director of Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations who serves as special adviser for intercultural dialogue to the Government of Azerbaijan also shared views in the event. In the face of rising extremism, tensions and misunderstanding among the civilizations the Professor described Azerbaijan as a unique place that creates favourable conditions to discuss these challenges, propose solutions as well as investigate ideas and initiatives.
Film highlighting lifetime of the Baku Process and the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue was presented at the end of the ceremony, the books on Azerbaijan`s cultural and tourism potential were also distributed to the participants.
Ceremony was followed by a reception.
